Red catches the eye, but it does not describe a paprika on its own. To choose one for a dish, look for the flavour profile stated on the pack.

Look for the words that describe flavour
A red colour does not tell you whether paprika is sweet, smoked or hot. Those details need to come from the packet. Before adding it to a recipe, compare the product description with the paprika the recipe calls for.
An attempt you can repeat
Keep the amount and packet name with your recipe. If later comparing with harissa, check that product’s form: dry blend and paste are not automatic substitutes. The appearance of the two preparations cannot establish an equivalent quantity.
